Did you know that your rubbish bill will now be on your annual tax bill. If you have Compton water, you got your trash bill every month with your water bill, not anymore. Put a little more money away so when you get that notice from your mortgage company, letting you know that your impound account is short or when you get that tax bill in November, you won't go into foreclosure trying to make up the shortfall. Thank your current City Council for this problem. They are trying to make it easier for the trash company to get their money without reducing our monthly trash rate. There should be a reduction in our trash bill because the billing cost has gone down.
Can somebody tell me when the overpass at Alameda and Artesia is going to be fixed? How long has it been? five years? Would it have taken this long in a non-minority community such as (PCH--Santa Monica) or the 10 freeway at Western in Los Angeles? just saying. The City of Compton has probably lost millions in sales tax dollars over the years because one of the major access roads to southern shopping center (Best Buy, Target, PetSmart etc.) has been closed for years. Also, what about all the extra wear and tear on adjacent streets accommodating all those tractor trailers going into Carson and Long Beach. They are now rerouted down Santa Fe to Greenleaf and then back over to Alameda (we the taxpayers in Compton will have to foot that street repair bill). Citizens of Compton which streets do you think get fixed first! the one in your Neiborhood or the ones servicing those trucks.
It looks like calling the trash company to pick up bulky waste is not working in our community anymore. The trash company should be out six days a week cruising our streets picking up bulky waste (be proactive and not reactive), don't wait for a call, especially in light of the fact that they have the exclusive rights (franchise) to pick up all residential and commercial trash in the city limits (10 square miles-plus) 20,000 plus parcels. The City of Compton and its citizens and commercial businesses are a multi- million-dollar cash cow for them. It has been 10 maybe 20 years since the city requested bids from other trash companies (go figure). Residents are eager for change and are advocating for a more competitive bidding process to ensure better services. There is a special meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 2024, 5:00 pm at the Dollarhide Community Center, SUBJECT PUBLIC HEARING FOR CONSOLIDATED DISPOSAL SERVICES, LLC dba REPUBLIC SERVICES. Please mark your calendars and ensure your attendance for this important event.
The City, through its code enforcement department should start staking out known spots for illegal dumping, and don't just cite them but impound the vehicle, give our code enforcement department the resources and direction/authority to help keep our city clean.
